CNC Machining Services

CNC machining services by Fractory help you create metal parts exactly as necessary. Precision machining with state-of-the-art workbenches helps to assure a tight range of tolerances.

CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing method. Thus, the final part is created from a larger block of metal through material removal.

CNC refers to computer numerical control. All CNC machines are run by computers that translate the human input into movements through code. Computer-controlled systems enhance the repeatability and precision of the manufacturing processes.

Such systems can translate 3D CAD models straight into CAM models, meaning that no manual writing of code is necessary. The programs generate the code based on the geometry of the digital parts.

CNC Milling Services

CNC milling services

Milling is one of the services we offer. This process involves a rotating cutting tool that removes chips from the material when brought into contact with the work piece.

While it may sound very similar to drilling, the two are definitely not the same. Drilling is only suitable for making holes axially. Mills can move laterally to remove material in that way.

There are different types of milling tools to either mill axially, laterally or both ways. Axial cutting needs teeth on the tip of the cutting head. Lateral cutting means that the teeth have to be perpendicular to the circular cutting head.

Fractory’s manufacturing partners offer state-of-the art machinery. This includes 5-axis milling equipment as well as live tooling possibilities. Driven tools, or live tooling, significantly reduce production times by making different operations possible without the need for a change of tools.

CNC Turning Services

CNC lathe services

CNC lathing, or turning, is suitable for creating cylindrical parts. The most common example of a turned part is a shaft.

CNC turning cuts the shape by spinning the metal part. The cutting tool can move axially in 2 ways – along the side of the part as well as to and from.

Thus, the automated system controls the cutting tool, bringing it into contact with the work piece, while the part itself is turning. As a result, bits of swarf are cut from the metal to produce the required shape.

Fractory is able to machine components in a wide range of materials. These include steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium and copper alloys. It is suitable for both prototyping as well as large-batch manufacturing.

Sliding head turning is also available to lower the production times as well as the final price. Comparing sliding head turning to traditional fixed head CNC machines, the production cycles are about twice as long for the latter.

Our large network of partners secures an access to a wide range of capabilities that can satisfy the needs of precision engineering.

CNC Machining FAQ

Are 5-axis CNC milling machines available?

Yes, our network of manufacturing partners also includes ones who have this kind of equipment.

Are turning and milling available for wood and plastics?

Fractory currently only concentrates on metal fabrication. The material selection includes steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, etc. We will look into adding other non-metallic materials in the future.

What is the quality of the machined parts?

All our manufacturing partners have the ISO 9001 certificate that ensures their work conforms to certain quality standards. If specific tolerances are required, please attach a drawing with relevant information.
